I love the dark woods on this pen…they give off an “ancient wizardly” vibe. Can’t you just picture Gandalf writing in Elvish with this pen? I made this pen out of exotic Bolivian Rosewood (the brown wood), and exotic Ebony wood (the pointy “tail” section). I used black acrylic for the “foot” of the pen (the part where the nib is located). Using acrylic at the tip of this pen will improve durability and it looks great! I gave this pen an ornate silhouette, but don’t worry…I designed her carefully and none of these turnings will interfere with your pen grip nor your writing. I “fitted” the ornate turnings so that those designs will not touch your writing hand when you grip the pen. But my goodness, it looks cool doesn’t it?! :-). It feels great in the hand too, and everyone will want to take a closer look at that pen, and will want to try it out!
This is a straight pen holder, so it is a super-versatile pen holder. Straight holders are great for both pointed pen (such as English Roundhand or Copperplate styles) and broad pen calligraphy styles (such as Blackletter, Fraktur, Textura). You can’t do that with an oblique pen holder. 🙂 Every calligrapher needs at least one good straight holder in his/her arsenal, and this is a GREAT straight pen holder. I use stainless steel inserts on my straight pens, so it will never rust out on you.
Unique Oblique Custom Pens are meticulously handmade writing instruments. They are finely crafted, pro-caliber calligraphy pens. This pen will easily and happily handle the rigors of the professional calligrapher. As with all of my handmade calligraphy pens, this one is coated with my super hardshell clear coat (12 coats on this pen). This finish is crystal clear, super hard, will never become sticky or gummy, and is almost impossible to stain. If ink or gouache dries on this finish, you can wipe it off with a damp rag, or for stubborn cases, you can literally scrape it off with your fingernail.
This pen will ship to you in a premium presentation/storage case
