Here is another of my handmade Filigree pens. They are exclusively for one nib (the Atome 1423/423 nib), and are primarily designed for adding fineline filigree and related decorative elements to your pieces. I do a lot of medieval-style calligraphy, and I use these pens and this magical little nib to add the very realistic decorations to my Lombardic Versal letters and fine border elements. These little nibs write extremely fine hairlines, and they are only slightly flexible, so it is easy to maintain a long hairline without and unwanted “swells” in the line width. These little nibs are also perfect for fine spencerian and “business” writing, Italian hand, and other fineline scripts. Also great for meticulous retouching. You will find many uses for this little pen, so it is definitely worthwhile to add one to your arsenal.
The “problem” with this nib is that it is tiny…and thus does not work in a standard pen holder. It is simply too small, and it wobbles and moves as you try to write with it in a standard straight holder (totally unacceptable). So I designed a pen holder that is specifically for this nib…it holds the nib rock-solid and stable. It is a joy to use this nib in tandem with this pen holder. You will be amazed at the fine work you will produce with this pen.
You can see in the photo an example of some simple filigree I executed with this pen on that little medieval piece. (Also, be sure to look at the thumbnails of this pen for close-ups.) I think it would be a great idea for you to grab it, and join in on the fun! 🙂
As with all of my handmade pens, this one has the super hardshell clearcoat…it will hold up to your calligraphy inks and gouaches; and it will never become sticky or gummy over time. This pen has 10 coats of the hardshell clear and is polished to a glassy luster.
This pen will include a brand new Atome 1423 nib, so you can go to work right away when you receive it!
