This pen is specifically designed to fit the tiny Atome 1423/423 nibs (They are the same nib, but the company re-numbered the nib for some reason). These nibs are quite small, and they will not work in a standard pen holder. Many of my customers assume that these are crow quill nibs, but they are not…they are tiny “standard” nibs. I use these nibs primarily for tiny filigree work (I do a lot of medieval-style calligraphy). These tiny nibs were recommended to me by Benoit Furet several years ago, and I cannot do without them now. They are capable of tiny, super-thin hairlines and they are only slightly flexible (which really helps to get consistent, thin hairlines without “swells”). The problem with these nibs is that they are just too small to be held securely in a standard pen holder…the nib will be loose and will “wobble” as you try to write…So… Because these pens did not work correctly in a standard pen holder, I devised a system that holds the nib rock-solid and stable in my holders.
I made this pen of American Cherry wood…it is a super-lightweight pen, and is a joy to use. You will also find that this pen works great for some of the fine-line scripts, such as Spencerian script, the Italian hand, American “business writing”, etc. A very useful tool!
